the Voice of Savage Henry
the way rock used to be, before big FM
radio put a dress on it
Mission Statement
I created the Voice of
Savage Henry less than a year ago, after urgings from many of my
friends who also stream via Live365...they know who they are.
I grew to love the Garage
Band Genre long ago when the first NUGGETS compilations came out during
the 1970's. I am a bit too young to have enjoyed these tunes in their
heyday, but can imagine what is was like by playing these classic songs.
My station slogan "The
Way Rock Used To Be, Before Big FM Radio Put a Dress On It" is never
more apt than it is today. How many DIFFERENT bands can you actually
HEAR nowadays? Admit it...the shit played on radio now is unlistenable.
It lacks origionality, creativity, and individualality. One song sounds
like another...and this is not just a problem in Rock. C&W, rap,
hip-hop- ALL sound similar. Like the same bigbrother+
bankrolled+elevater+music is being jammed down our ears.
Why not go back to our
roots? The mid-1960's was the GOLDEN ERA of the thought that consisted
of "Yeah, I can do that, too!" These songs you will hear are derivitive
of the big hits, sure... but the combination of youth and guitars,
drums, organ and mabe a harp or so stretched Rock to it's absolute
limits. This was a time when the record companies where actually
searching for the next Beatles....or Kinks or whatever. The key word is
NEW! All areas of the U.S. and the World had their versions of Garage
Music. I include many examples on my station.
Amatuerish? Certainly.
Crude? Yep!- and with no apologies. You will hear many tunes to where
you would question if the bandmembers even knew how to play the
instruments. But think back to the "I can do that, too!" The butchered
chords and mangled vocals add a touch of authenticity to the
songs....and most are good; many of them are GREAT!
I lean heavily upon the
NUGGETS compilations...but include many more from the excellent "Back
From the Grave" series and the awesome collections available from Crypt
Records as they are less polished and more indicative of the genre.
I stream in 24 KBPS
AM-quality for two reasons...First, it is dial-up friendly! And, it
will approximate how these songs would have been heard on the radio or
that old record player in that era.
GIVE ME A LISTEN! Sit
back with a choice libation and engage the Wayback Machine...turn the
volume down on the TV ballgame... Surf the net or read that book you
have been putting off for so long... Or juice up your party with the
music...But GIVE ME A LISTEN!
Savage Henry THANKS
YOU!!
